Anandabazar newspaper in Kolkata said that the incident started in the first week of this month. The young man from Haryana named Badal (pseudonym) got addicted to ganja for a long time and became unnatural.
Doctors believe that the young man swallowed the 20 cm long knife due to intoxication. AIIMS gastro surgery department doctor NR Dash, who was in charge of Badal's operation, said, 'The knife could have cut the breath or the esophagus while going down through the oesophagus. It could even shock the lungs or heart. The boy's forehead is good that nothing happened. But the knife went down further and hit the lever. Because of which unbearable pain in stomach starts. It was only then that an X-ray of his abdomen revealed the knife.'
Doctors said that the sharp part of the recovered knife was 10 cm long. The rest is its handle.
Badal was sent to EMS from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on July 12. Sources in MS said that at that time his physical condition started to deteriorate. The young man's body started showing signs of septicemia. Water accumulates in the lungs. Pus gradually accumulates in the liver. The amount of hemoglobin in the blood decreases. In the words of doctor Dash, 'There was also the fear of corona infection. In the end, the operation was decided to save the life.'
The young man underwent counseling for about 7 days before the surgery. Blood is given to increase hemoglobin in the body. Finally, on July 19, it was decided to operate on the person. The operation lasted for about 3 hours. In the words of doctor Dash, 'there was a risk of bleeding because of the knife. Even part of the liver could have been destroyed as the knife was embedded. In that case it was decided to cut it off. But there was no such problem.'
In this regard, the doctors said, for the time being, the young man is being allowed to drink liquids by placing a feeding tube in the lower part of the stomach. He is currently healthy.
