Corona 'True Facts' Revealed: Newspapers Shut Down in Iran

The Dhaka Times Desk Iran was one of the first countries where the outbreak became severe after the start of the Corona outbreak. There, the newspaper was shut down for publishing 'real facts' about the corona virus.

From the beginning, the Iranian government has been accused of understating the number of infected and dead. This time a newspaper of the country has been closed for publishing the 'real facts' of Corona.

The official number of infected and dead in Iran is not the true picture of the country's epidemic situation; The country's government stopped the publication of a newspaper in Iran last Monday due to the publication of an expert's writing, commenting that it reflects only 5 percent of the real situation.

Mohammad Reza Saadi, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper named 'Jahane Sanat' confirmed the suspension of publication to the country's news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Published since 2004, the newspaper mainly deals with economic news.

Epidemiologist Mohammad Reza Mahbubfar commented in an article in the Sunday issue of the newspaper that the number of infected and dead people infected with the epidemic novel coronavirus in the country and the number of deaths reported by the Ministry of Health of Iran is actually more than 20 times that number.

He also writes that it was said that the first case of corona was detected in the country on February 19, but in reality it was detected at least one month earlier, in January. The information was withheld due to Iran's Islamic Revolution anniversary celebrations and parliamentary elections earlier that month.

Mohammad Reza Mahbubfar alleged that the administration resorted to this secrecy for 'political and security reasons'.

It should be noted that according to the government, the number of patients identified as infected with coronavirus in Iran is about 300,000. 18 thousand 616 people have died among the affected.
