Jeff Aiken was one of the three bidders for the highest priced sheep. He had also been eyeing the double diamond for several weeks before the recent sale in Lanark, Scotland. The heavily muscled sheep is genetically perfect.

The Texel is a highly sought-after breed of dog that originates from the small island of Texel off the coast of the Netherlands. They regularly sell for five figures, but this time the competition is especially fierce.

This record-breaking sheep belonged to the Charlie Bowden family of Cheshire, England. The previous record for a sheep sold at auction prior to the Double Diamond sale was $230,000 in 2009.

Aiken and his two partners run a farm in Ayrshire and Northumberland. Together they will share the ownership of Double Diamond. Aiken said he would be raised separately from everyone else. As he gets older, his sperm will be used for artificial insemination.

Aiken and his wife breed Texels on their farm in Lancashire. Regarding the unprecedented price of the double diamond, he said, "Don't get me wrong, spending so much money on a sheep is really absurd." These high prices should never be a reflection of the farming community.
