The Dhaka Times Desk Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the president of Turkey and the current chair of the organization, has agreed to attend the D-8 summit to be held in Dhaka. The conference is scheduled to take place early next year.
Yesterday (September 16) Foreign Minister Dr. AK met with Abdul Momen Erdoğan. There he agreed to come to Bangladesh.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Erdoğan also emphasized on the expansion of D-8 by adding new member states. He also made some specific proposals emphasizing on increasing trade relations between the two countries. This includes avoiding existing tariff barriers and investing in new products, textiles, pharmaceuticals and other sectors. Erdoğan also expressed the hope of taking necessary measures by ensuring the participation of both countries in trade fairs. The President of Turkey has proposed to allocate the necessary land for the construction of a modern hospital in Bangladesh with the financial support of Turkey.
Erdogan praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving shelter to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He also promised to stand by Bangladesh in all possible bilateral and international issues in this regard. Erdogan has assured to send more necessary support from Türkiye in the Corona situation.
He expressed satisfaction over the fact that high-level Foreign Secretary-level meetings are being held between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries at regular intervals. The two sides also agreed to set up necessary forums to continue regular high-level dialogue in the near future. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was also present in that meeting.
