India imprisoned 3,000 citizens in 1962 for being of Chinese origin

The Dhaka Times Desk কেবলমাত্র চীনা বংশোদ্ভূত হওয়ার কারণে ভারত ১৯৬২ সালে অন্তত তিন হাজার নাগরিককে বন্দী করেছিল। দেওলি’র ব্যারাক নামক স্থানে চীনা বংশোদ্ভূত নাগরিকদের রাখা হয়েছিল!

12th November 1962. That afternoon, a group of Indian Army suddenly appeared at Don Bosco School in Shillong. They began administering a form to all Chinese-born students at the school. 16-year-old Ying Sheng Wang was among those students.

পরের দিন বিকেল সাড়ে ৪টা নাগাদ সেনাসদস্যদের একটা দল ইঙ শেং’য়ের বাড়ির দরজায় কড়া নাড়ে। বলেছিল গোটা পরিবারকেই তাদের সঙ্গে যেতে হবে। তার বাবাকে তারা বলেছিল যে, তিনি কিছু ব্যক্তিগত জিনিসপত্র ও কিছু টাকা সঙ্গে নিতে পারবেন।

The parents, four brothers and twin sisters were taken into custody by the Indian Army on the same day. They were taken to a jail in Shillong.

ইতিহাসের ওই ঘটনার ওপরে ভিত্তি করেই দিলীপ ডি’সুজা একটি বইও লিখেছেন। যে বইটির নাম ‘দ্যা দেওলি ওয়ালাজ’।

মিস্টার ডি’সুজা জানিয়েছেন যে, ১৯৬২ সালের চীন ও ভারতের যুদ্ধের সময় ভারতে যতো চীনা বংশোদ্ভূত মানুষ থাকতেন, তাদের সকলকে সন্দেহের চোখেই দেখা হচ্ছিল।

“যদিও এইসব মানুষরা কয়েক পুরুষ ধরে ভারতেই বসবাস করতেন, ভারতীয় ভাষাতেই তারা কথা বলতেন।”
