Mobile phone set will be disconnected if invalid: BTRC

The Dhaka Times Desk Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said that if the mobile phone set is illegal, it will be disconnected from the network.

That's why the regulatory body BTRC has requested everyone to verify the validity of the handset by checking the IMEI before buying any phone set.

The company said that this initiative has been taken to prevent the importation of illegal mobile phone sets. BTRC has already created a database for International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of legally imported mobile sets from January 2018.

Customers are also requested to collect the receipt while purchasing the mobile phone set. News agency UNB reported this. This request was made through a notice from BTRC.

Customers wishing to purchase the phone set can also get the 15-digit IMEI number by dialing *#06# from the respective handset.

To check the validity of the handset IMEI number (Example: KYD 123456789012345) should be sent as an SMS to 16002. A return SMS will inform the user whether his handset was imported validly.

The regulator BTRC also said that mobile phones with fake or cloned IMEI will be identified through the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) and disconnected from the network.
