In this regard, Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said that human-made pollution or volcanic earthquakes are being blamed as possible causes of the death of marine animals.

According to a report in The Moscow Times, some scientists have blamed pollution largely for the death of marine life. Some scientists have not completely ruled out the possibility of volcanic eruptions inside the ocean. However, a special commission has already been formed to investigate the incident.

Local fishermen and surfers report that the water here smells of pesticides. Some surfers have also reported nausea, sore throats and burning eyes. Tests have found evidence of petroleum-like substances in the water.
