At this time, his administrative skills and popularity inspired the party leaders and workers. This popularity helps to organize the team. After the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966, Indira Gandhi became the prime minister. During his tenure as Prime Minister, his popularity increased more than before. As a result, in the 1971 elections, the Congress returned to power with a huge victory. Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister of the country for the second time.
At this time, under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the people of East Pakistan are agitating for independence. On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani government pounced on the Bengalis in the dark of night to crush the movement. Innocent people who want freedom are killed in elections. Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi not only condemned but also took a stand against this barbaric demonic incident by the Pakistani government. Stand by the freedom-loving people of East Pakistan. Unable to bear the brutality of the Pakistani government, about one crore people took refuge in India. A section of these oppressed people take combat training. They returned home and fought directly against the Pakistani military. With the personal help of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Bengalis got the courage to turn against the Pakistani military. On the one hand the freedom fighters continued to fight and on the other hand India spread diplomatic efforts worldwide to garner support for Bangladesh. India and individual Indira Gandhi's cooperation behind the independence of a country like Bangladesh will be written in golden letters in history. During Indira Gandhi's tenure as Prime Minister of India for ten consecutive years, major improvements were made in various sectors. Significant among them is agriculture. Indira Gandhi's government brought about a revolution in agriculture through the use of scientific technology, which alleviated India's chronic food crisis. On the other hand, India became a nuclear power by detonating nuclear bombs underground. Indira Gandhi's personal efforts in turning India into a powerful nation in agriculture and military power deserve praise. India is now known as a democratic nuclear power not only in this Asian continent but also in the whole world. In 1980, the Congress government came to power again under the leadership of Indira Gandhi.
The dispute over the Golden Temple was created by the government. Militants inside the Golden Temple were killed. A Sikh bodyguard shot and killed Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a close friend of Bangladesh, on October 31, 1984. This murder has been known as a brutal tragedy in history.
