The Dhaka Times Desk Peruvian President Manuel Marino had to resign after only 5 days after being elected. After taking oath on November 10, he was forced to withdraw in the face of massive protests across the country.

Peruvian President Manuel Marino announced his resignation in an address to the nation on Sunday. He took oath as the head of state on 10 November. Congress leader Luis Valdez called on Marino to resign Sunday morning. He also told the media that he is planning to resign. According to him, every life in Peru is precious to him.

Marino called for an investigation to find out if anyone was behind the protests that took such a violent form across the country. He told the protestors that he was legitimately the president. However, protesters alleged that former President Martin Vizcarra was removed from office in a parliamentary coup.

Former President Vizcarra was impeached on charges of accepting bribes and embezzling public funds, according to media reports. He was accused of taking 537,000 euros in bribes during his tenure as governor of Moquegua from 2011-14.

However, after Munael took office as president, the Vizcarras denied the allegations and started protests across the country. It was the biggest violent protest in Peru in two decades.
