The Dhaka Times Desk A Hungarian researcher has received Germany's Körber Foundation Award for discovering a new method to eliminate blindness. He was given a check of one million euros in recognition of this extraordinary work.
Researcher Botand Roska has received the 2020 Körber Award for European Science Research. The gene-based treatment he invented is said to have already started restoring sight to the blind.
According to the Körber Foundation, Botand Roska in Basel, Switzerland has developed a gene-based therapy that specifically helps restore vision.
Medical scientist Roska said that this process will provide the ability to watch black and white television for the time being. The Budapest-based researcher's new treatment method has already been experimentally applied to many eyes.
At the recent check presentation ceremony, Hamburg Mayor Peter Schönscher said, "We hope that this new treatment method by the researcher Rozkar can restore the sight of the blind."
The Korber Foundation Award was started in 1985. This award is given in recognition of special contribution in the field of medicine.
The son of a computer scientist and pianist, Roska began his career as a physician. Before studying medicine, he studied music at the Liszt Ferenc Academy in Budapest.
It should be noted that German researcher Bernhard Schoelkoff of the Max Planck Society received the Körber Foundation Award last year.
