The Dhaka Times Desk Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a strike on August 12 and 13 in protest against the decision of the Election Commission (EC) declaring the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami illegal.
When the court canceled this registration in a verdict on August 1, Jamaat-e-Islami Acting Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan called for this strike in a statement that evening. They will hold this demonstration and hartal against all the conspiracies, conspiracies and plans of the government to wipe out the Jamaat.
The statement also said that under Article 38 of the Constitution, Jamaat has the right to function as a political party. The decision to cancel the registration of Jamaat is a wrong decision. The government's political intentions have been reflected through this judgment.
The statement also said that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to take action on the registration of any party. And the Election Commission is a constitutional institution. We are surprised that the court canceled the registration of the Jamaat before the Election Commission completed the formalities of the registration process. It is against the rule of law, democracy, fundamental rights and the constitution. Considering the suffering of people on the occasion of holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, I have refrained from programs like hartal at this moment. However, the program against this unconstitutional, undemocratic and violation of fundamental rights will continue.
It should be noted that on August 1, a three-judge bench headed by Justice M Moazzem Hossain ruled that the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami was invalid. Later, Jamaat filed an appeal in the Chambers Court yesterday seeking a stay of the verdict.
