Asteroid fragments found in spacecraft capsule

The Dhaka Times Desk After opening the capsule of a spaceship returning to Earth from space, scientists found black rocks and pieces of soil from an asteroid inside.

The Hayabusa-2 spacecraft sent by the Japanese space agency ISAS collected the pieces of this asteroid called Ryugu and filled it in a capsule. Japanese scientists get it.

This is the first time large quantities of soil and rock have been sent to Earth from deep space. One of the materials from which the solar system was formed that still survives is this asteroid called Ryugu.

The Hayabusa-2 spacecraft was able to reach Ryugu for the first time in June 2018. In February 2019, Hayabusa-2 landed on the one kilometer long asteroid for the first time.

A bullet made of a metal called tantalum is then 'shot' at the asteroid. The pieces that fall out of it are basically collected by a tube.

The capsule carrying the Hayabusa-2 sample returned to Earth on December 5. It landed safely with the help of a parachute in the Umera desert in Australia.

Japanese scientists have so far opened only one of the capsule's three chambers. One of the other two chambers collects the subsoil of Ryugu.

Scientists wanted to collect some pure material from the Ryugu asteroid that had not been altered by cosmic radiation or other factors over hundreds of billions of years. That is why a missile-like object made of copper using explosives is used to hit the surface of this asteroid.

Because of that, a 20 meter wide hole was created in Ryuugu's chest. Hayabusa-2 then landed on it and collected pieces of pure cosmic matter from the crater. Scientists will examine this chamber of the capsule later.

The Japanese space agency said that the gas collected from inside the capsule was also obtained from the asteroid.
