Soon after the BJP came to power in Assam, it announced that action would be taken against madrassas. It is said that the reason is that religious education is mainly imparted in madrasahs. By taking that education, ordinary Muslim students do not get the opportunity to work in the mainstream. However, not all political and religious camps agree with this demand of BJP. But BJP is not moving from its statement. That is reflected in the newly passed law. Important BJP minister in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma, told the media that students studying in madrasas only become imams of mosques. But does not get any chance in mainstream work. The new law will make every madrassa a government school. Students will also get an opportunity to study there and join government jobs.
However, there is controversy over whether madrasas can actually be converted into government schools. There is also considerable question as to whether the madrasas, which are privately owned or owned by a board, will agree to give it to the government or not.
Wazed Ali Chowdhury, an important leader of the Congress in Assam, said that the BJP government has taken anti-Muslim measures by baiting government jobs. By closing the madrasas, the religious sentiments of the Muslims are being hurt.
However, the state government has said that 97 Sanskrit tolls will also be closed at the same time. Those tolls will be connected with Sanskrit and Ancient History Center. That is, tolls will be included in the research center.
It may be noted that recently 100 IAS and IPS officers of Uttar Pradesh have also given a letter to the government. That is to say, the new law that the government has made on Love Jihad is basically anti-Muslim. Similar complaints have been made about Assam's new law.
