The Dhaka Times Desk Vaccination program has already started in different countries of the world to prevent Corona virus. But most of the countries where it started are developed countries. Poor countries are not named in this list. However, Pfizer gave 'good news' to poor countries.
No one can say for sure when the poor countries will actually get the vaccine. However, on Friday (January 22), the US vaccine manufacturer Pfizer (BionTech) announced that they will give 40 million or 40 million corona vaccines to poor countries. Although they are not free, they are given at production cost. That is, they will not get any benefit from these 4 crore doses. Pay only the production cost. Poor countries are expected to start receiving Pfizer's vaccine by February.
According to the news agency AFP, several international organizations have taken a global fair distribution effort to ensure vaccination in these low-income countries. The program called Kovacs is also scheduled to start in February.
COVAX is partnered with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the vaccine alliance GAVI. Pfizer is one of the vaccines approved for emergency use.
In a virtual press conference, the company's chairman, Albert Bourla, said that Pfizer will provide vaccines to the remaining developing countries at the cost of production through Kovacs.
Proud of this opportunity, he added, it will be possible to vaccinate health workers and others who are at extreme risk in poor countries.
On the other hand, Gavi's chief executive officer (CEO) Sath Berkley said that Oxford-AstraZeneca is ready to administer about 15 million doses of Kovax. The vaccine could be available by mid-February, if approved by the WHO.
Regarding the Covax programme, he also said that it would be possible to supply the vaccine to poor countries within the first 3 months of 2021.
