The Dhaka Times Desk Motorola has taken the final decision to set up a mobile handset factory in Bangladesh. The world famous handset manufacturer wants to set up this factory within this year.
The company has already started negotiations to allocate land for setting up a factory in Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City. It is known that the establishment of this factory will be done jointly with Motorola's national distributor Selextra Limited in the country.
In this regard, Selextra Managing Director Shakib Arafat said, Motorola has finally announced their decision to set up the factory. Their approval has also been obtained in this regard. "Now the senior representatives of Motorola will come to Bangladesh and observe the whole matter on the ground, discussions with the policy makers and after the supervision of other issues, the activities will proceed. He said there are various issues including application to BTRC, land allotment formalities in Hi-Tech City.
Shakib Arafat also said that they want to set up the factory this year. Motorola aims to produce 100,000 feature phones and 40,000 smartphones in the beginning.
Motorola will invest a lot of money in setting up a factory in Bangladesh. They will also invest in it themselves, said Saqib Arafat, managing director of Celextra.
