Stats: Record number of video-audio calls in Bangladesh on IMO

The Dhaka Times Desk IMO users in Bangladesh sent 9.68 billion messages and 2.6 billion audio and video calls in 2020; Which is 8.2 percent and 7.8 percent higher than 2019 respectively. This news is known in a media report.

The data revealed that on an average every Bangladeshi has communicated through IMO about 753 times throughout the year. 31 percent of the total messages and 58 percent of the total calls were international communications with the highest number of calls from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Qatar. By combining the best technology in the market and local communication technology, Imo has saved Bangladeshi users more than 150 million gigabytes of data video and audio calls throughout 2020.

Instant messaging app IMO has been playing an important role in these difficult times through online communication, information availability, entertainment and other social activities.

Recently Imo released their annual report, from which it can be seen how Bangladeshi netizens have been able to stay connected with their loved ones using this app throughout the year.

According to the report, Bangladeshi imo users sent about 96 billion messages and 26 billion audio and video calls throughout 2020. Whereas there was an increase of 8.2 percent in messages and 7.8 percent in audio and video calls compared to 2019. In 2020, every Bangladeshi messaged or called an average of 753 times through IMO.

Out of which 31 percent of the total messages i.e. 3,000 crore messages and 58 percent of the total calls i.e. 1,500 crore calls were international to people living in Bangladesh. The top 5 countries with the highest number of international calls made by Bangladeshi imo users are Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. In May 2020, IMO allocated 5 special hotline numbers to the Directorate of Information Communication and Technology of Bangladesh to deal with Covid-19 at the international level; So that expatriates staying abroad can contact those numbers.

The tendency among Bangladeshis to communicate online was higher this year than any other year. About 13 crore group calls this year and 12.8 crore virtual party rooms have been created through Emore's interaction feature Plateau Gather, which launched in 2020, according to the report. Besides being an easy-to-use and interactive medium, emo will continue to create a more accessible and user-friendly platform for online communication, the report also noted.

With the best technology in the market and local communication technology, IMO Internet has managed to realize the benefit of calls for the users through data capability despite the lack of it. IMO also saved around 150 million GB of data on video and audio calls in 2020 for Bangladeshi users. Which is worth about 144 million US dollars.
