After the cancellation of China's vaccine trial, Dhaka quickly moved towards Delhi and also signed an agreement with the Serum Institute through the Modi government for the commercial supply of 30 million doses of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine. Apart from the agreement, India sent 20 lakh doses of CoviShield vaccine to Dhaka on January 21 as a gift.

This time, China has expressed its interest in giving Bangladesh a Covid-19 vaccine as a gift. China's written proposal reached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of last February.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said in this regard, China has offered to send us vaccines as a gift. The number will be more than 2 lakh. We have sent the proposal to the Ministry of Health to take a further decision on the matter, let's see what they say.

AK Abdul Momen also said that we are continuing our four-pronged efforts for the corona virus vaccine. A new deal is being considered to bring in more vaccines from India. Meanwhile, the authorities are also thinking about the proposal to send the vaccine as a gift to China. A preliminary decision has also been taken to import Russian-developed vaccines.

A total of 9 million doses of vaccine have arrived in the country so far. The first vaccine arrived on January 20. That was 20 lakh doses given as a gift by the Government of India. Later on January 25 came the 50 lakh doses of vaccine, which was the first shipment under the Bangladesh government's contract with Seram. Then another 2 million doses of vaccine arrived as the second shipment.

The first vaccination program was inaugurated in Bangladesh on January 27. On that day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this experimental program by vaccinating a nurse at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital. Then on February 7, the mass vaccination program was started across the country, which is still ongoing.
