According to a report citing Saudi government officials, the Saudi government wants to discourage the recent trend of men in the country marrying foreign women. As part of that, the country's government imposed the ban by issuing an official order on Friday.

In addition to the ban, the order also lays down some rules regarding the marriage and second marriage of foreign women.

In this regard, Makkah Police Director Major General Assaf Al Quraishi told the local media Makkah Daily that if a Saudi man wants to marry a foreign woman, he must first apply to the Saudi government for marriage permission.

But if the male applicant is divorced, he cannot apply until at least 6 months have passed since the divorce.

This police officer also said that the age of the applicant must be more than 25 years. The application must also bear the signature of the local mayor of the district in which the concerned person resides. Besides, he should also attach a copy of his identity card and the identity card of his family members along with the application form. On the other hand, the order also imposes strictness on the second marriage of Saudi men.

Referring to Friday's order, Assaf Al Quraishi also said that if a Saudi man wants to marry a second time, he must mention his current wife's information in the application form. That is, the current wife who is disabled or ill or barren for a long time - this information and a copy of the medical certificate in her favor should also be attached to the application form.
