Historical Ranbijaipur Mosque in Bagerhat

The mosque you can see is a domed Ranbijaipur mosque in Ranbijaipur village, about 5 km west of Bagerhat district.

Among the largest mosques with a dome in Bangladesh, this mosque is also better known as Dariya Khan Mosque to the locals. Ranbijaipur Mosque is located just one and a half kilometers away from the Sixty Domed Mosque on the east side. It is believed that during the reign of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali in 1459, Dariya Khan, a companion of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali, built Ranbijaipur Masjid.

Ranbijaipur Mosque with thick brick walls has an outer area of 56 square feet and an inner area of 36 square feet. The wall of the mosque is about 10 feet wide! On the west side of this mosque there are 3 mehrabs and 3 doors on the 3 side walls. Among the 3 arches with floral designs, the main arch in the middle is relatively larger. The curved cornice mosque also has 4 round minarets built in Khan Jahani architecture.

The single dome of the Ranbijaipur Mosque is also interesting to see. The terracotta decoration of the mosque walls is also particularly noteworthy. Bangladesh Directorate of Archeology declared the Rannbijoypur Mosque as a protected antiquities in 1961.
