Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported that Iran's Ministry of Interior said that Raisi was elected president with 61.95 percent of the vote. He received 2 crore 89 lakh 33 thousand 4 votes. His nearest rival Mohsin Rezai got 34 lakh 12 thousand 712 votes. Abdul Naser Hemati who is in the third position got 24 lakh 27 thousand 201 votes and Amir Hasemi who is in the fourth position got 9 lakh 99 thousand 718 votes.

This was the lowest turnout in Iran's presidential election since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. This fear came true. This time, only 48.8 percent votes were cast in the country. More than 3.7 million votes were canceled in this election. Earlier, there was no election in which so many votes were canceled.

In the eyes of many Iranian media, Raisi is seen as the successor of the supreme religious leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei will be 82 next month. Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Raisi as head of Iran's judiciary in 2019.

After Raisi was elected president, the discussion started about what will happen to the nuclear agreement made by 6 nations with Iran. In 2015, Iran's nuclear deal with the world's 6 superpowers was signed. However, when the then US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2018, like other ultra-hardliners, Raiso harshly criticized the Rouhani camp. At that time, Trump's United States also imposed nuclear and economic sanctions on Iran. But Raisi, like other politicians, supports efforts to restore the nuclear deal to relieve Iran of its economic woes.

It should be noted that Raisi was born in 1960 in the city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran. At the age of 20, he became the Prosecutor General of the city of Karaj. In 1988, he was the deputy prosecutor of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. His name was also associated with the massacre of Marxists and other leftists at that time. With decades of judicial experience, Raisi served as Prosecutor-General of Tehran from 1989 to 1994, Deputy Chief of Judicial Authority until 2004, and National Prosecutor General until 2014.

Raisi promised conservative voters to eradicate corruption in his election campaign. His campaign has also worked. Like Khamenei, the country's supreme religious leader, he also opposes deep ties with the West.
