Inauguration of Global Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Transparency Center

The Dhaka Times Desk Huawei has inaugurated its largest global cyber security and privacy protection transparency center in Dongguan, China.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of GSMA, SUSE, British Standards Institution and regulators from UAE and Indonesia.

Alongside the launch of the new center, Huawei has released its product security baseline. Through this, the company has for the first time opened its product security baseline framework and management practices to the entire industry. The move is part of a broader effort by the company to work collaboratively with buyers, suppliers, standards-setting bodies and other partners to strengthen cyber security across the sector. "Cyber security is more important now than ever," said Ken Hu, Huawei's rotating chairman. "As a unified industry we need to work together and share best practices in governance, standards, technology and validation," he said. We need to create the reason why the general public and regulators can have confidence in the safety of the products and services they use every day. Together we can strike the right balance of security and development in an increasingly digital world.'

Industry digitalization and new technologies like 5G and AI in the past years have made the cyber-sector more complex than ever. In this regard, the global pandemic of Covid-19 has also played a role in the fact that people spend too much time online. These trends have increased cyber security risks.

Huawei launched its new Global Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Transparency Center in Dongguan to identify these issues and share expertise among industry stakeholders on cyber governance, as well as work together on technical solutions. The center will showcase solutions and share experiences, foster communication and joint innovation, and provide support in security testing and verification. The center will be open to regulatory agencies, independent third-party testing organizations, standards-related organizations, and Huawei's customers, partners, and suppliers.

GSMA and 3GPP are working with industry stakeholders to promote NESAS Security Assurance Specifications and Independent Certification to strengthen an integrated approach to cyber security in the telecom sector. These baselines have gained industry acceptance and will play an important role in the development of secure networks.
GSMA Director General Mats Granried spoke at the opening ceremony of Huawei's new center. He said, 'The delivery of existing and new services in the 5G era will depend in particular on the connectivity services of mobile network companies and will largely depend on the security of and trust in this technology.' He said, 'Initiatives such as the GSMA 5G Security Knowledge Base have been undertaken to assist stakeholders in understanding network risks and working to mitigate them. On the other hand, the industry-specific security assurance framework 'NESAS' has been developed to improve the security and development of network equipment across the industry.

At the event, Huawei released its product cybersecurity baseline. With over a decade of experience in product security management, product cybersecurity baselines have been developed incorporating a wide range of external regulations, technical standards and regulatory agency requirements. A baseline with Huawei's other governance mechanisms
Together they will help ensure the quality, safety and reliability of the organization's products. Over the past years, Huawei has built more than 1500 networks that connect more than 3 billion people in 170 countries. No major security issues have arisen in any of these networks.

"For the first time, we have presented our security baseline framework not only to our key suppliers, but to the entire industry," said Sean Yang, director of Huawei's Global Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Office. He said, 'We invite all stakeholders including buyers, regulatory bodies, standards bodies, technology service providers and testing organizations to work with us to discuss the cyber security baseline together and take necessary initiatives. Together we can consistently work to improve product safety in this industry.' Currently there is still much room for work in this sector in terms of the standards base; Specifically, in governance, technical capacity, certification and joint efforts.

"Everyone has a responsibility when it comes to cyber security risks," Ken Hu said at the end of the opening remarks. Governments, standards bodies and technology service providers need to work together in an integrated approach to identify cyber security challenges. It must be an international effort. We all need to have a common goal, share responsibility and work together to create a trusted digital environment that will help meet current and future challenges.'
