'If there is a law to protect the sculpture, why not make a law to protect the honor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)?'

The Dhaka Times Desk While discussing a law in the British Parliament, the country's Muslim MP Naz Shah said, if there is a law to protect the sculpture, why not make a law to protect the honor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)?

In the face of the anti-sculpture movement, the British government has recently drafted a law. The Act also provides for various measures to protect the sculpture and various punishments for those who oppose it. While discussing this law in the parliament, the country's Muslim MP Naz Shah said that if there is a law to protect the sculpture, why not make a law to protect the honor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)?

On July 6, a meeting was held in the House of Commons regarding the proposed law on the offense of breaking statues or sculptures of the country's memorials. Due to the attack or breaking of the sculpture, it seriously hurts people's feelings. Therefore, 10 years imprisonment has been proposed for the person accused in this crime.

In the speech of the parliamentary meeting, Naz Shah said that 'Why is this punishment proposed for injury to human sculptures made of the same material compared to ordinary stone or iron injury? But metallurgically they are insensitive and made of the same material. Because an injury to a sculpture is not the same as an injury to an ordinary object.'

Noting that all Muslims in the UK and around the world share the same reverence, Naz Shah said, "As a Muslim, I and all Muslims around the world respect and love the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) the most every day and every moment."

He further said that when a bigot and racist insults or abuses our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), like they did to Churchill's statue, it also hurts our feelings. Because he is a leader to two billion people of the world, whom we remember constantly. We honor Him with our lives.'

The British MP demanded that as the law is proposed to protect the statues of the historical monuments of the United Kingdom, the law should also be passed respecting the respectable persons of other religious communities and their religious sentiments.

Note that Naseem Naz Shah is a British MP of Pakistani origin. In 2015 he was elected as the Respect Party nominee for George Gallo MP for Bradford West. Earlier he also served as the Commissioner of National Health Service.
