5 people were shot dead in the capital on the first day of Jamaat strike

The Dhaka Times Desk A nationwide 48-hour strike is going on at the call of Jamaat amid isolated incidents. So far 5 people have been shot dead in the capital.

At the beginning of the hartal, Jamaat-Shibir activists turned violent in different parts of the country including the capital. Blocked the road by throwing tree stumps and burning tires. Incidents of vandalism and arson also took place at various places. At that time, Jamaat-Shibir workers clashed with the police and chased back. 5 people were shot dead in the capital.

Limited traffic has been observed on the main roads of the capital since the morning of the strike. Long-distance road communication with the capital is completely closed. However, train and launch movement is normal.

Main Uddin (24), Finance Secretary Biplab (26), the organization secretary of Shibir's Dhaka Metropolitan West, and 4 Shibir workers were shot dead in Kalyanpur of the capital.

It is known that they took out a procession from Kalyanpur around 8 am. Meanwhile, some cars were vandalized and cocktails exploded there. Witnesses said the police fired 15-20 rounds of bullets to disperse them.

At the start of the hartal at 6 am, one person was injured in police firing at Rayer Bagh in the capital. Police fired several rounds to disperse the Jamaat-Shibir procession here. Besides, Jamaat-Shibir workers have marched in several places.
