The mosque that you can see is the Shah Niamat Ullah Wali Mosque, a historical monument of Mughal period in Shivganj, Chapainawabganj, the westernmost district of Bangladesh.
This mosque, one of the oldest in the country, is a listed structure of the Bangladesh Archeology Department. The location of this mosque is just half a kilometer from Chhota Sona Masjid, another historical structure of the district. Along with the mosque, there is a vast Tahkhana complex and the mausoleum of Shah Niamat Ullah.
The entire complex, including this temperature-controlled basement, was built in 1639-1660 AD during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan's son Shah Shuja as the Subedar of Bengal between 1639-1660 AD as a sign of devotion to his spiritual guide Syed Niamat Ullah. According to legend, when Shah Shuja used to come to meet Shah Niamat Ullah, he used to live in the spacious room in the middle of the Tahkhana. A short distance north-west from the main palace of Tahkhana is the magnificent three-domed mosque of Shah Neemat Ullah Wali.
