The Dhaka Times Desk The Arab League strongly condemned Israel after it announced it would build 1,300 more settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The 22-nation body said in a statement on Monday that Zionist Israel continues its aggression against the Palestinian people, as part of which it announced plans to build settlements.
Israel's housing ministry said on Sunday that tenders have also been released to build 1,355 settlements in eight parts of the West Bank. Just a day after this, the Arab League issued this statement in strong language.
The Israeli ministry said the new 1,355 units would be an extension of the 2,000 settlements announced last August. Illegal Jewish settlers in the West Bank will also have the opportunity to live in these units.
Regarding the Israeli plan, the Arab League said that Israel is building these settlements as part of the Judaization of the entire Palestinian territory. That is why the hope of solving the crisis by forming an independent Palestinian state in the future with East Baitul Muqaddas as its capital is mentioned in the statement.
The Arab League also stated that any settlement construction in Occupied Palestine is considered illegal under international law in accordance with Resolution 2334 passed by the UN Security Council on December 23, 2016. In this regard, the Arab League called upon the international community and related countries to come forward.
