600 people live in this village. Not everyone knows about this small village on the Pak-India border. But this village is known for a strange custom. Every man there has at least two wives! If you know the reason behind this custom, it will be many times more strange than it sounds.
According to a report, the residents of that village believe that no husband will have children from his first wife. To see the child's face or they have to marry a second time. Because of this strange belief, every male in the village gets married for the second time.
Such custom originated from an incident in the past. A person in the village was not having children at all. He later had a child after his second marriage. Then whenever the other men of the village had such experiences, he was given a second marriage. That would be a child. Thus male polygamy has become a village custom.
There is another reason for such strange custom. There is severe water shortage in the village. That is why the women of the family have to walk at least 5 kilometers to fetch water. It is never possible for a woman to fetch water on foot if she is pregnant. That's why the men of this village get second marriages.
So the first man is not given any right of wife in this village. They lead the life of house maids. This first wife is called 'water wife'.
In general, the first wife does not have the right to have children throughout her life. They have no right to have physical relations with their husbands. If a man opposes this custom, the entire village unites against him. Even his own family abandoned him. He was even expelled from the village.
