Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar officially launched the text-only Facebook and Discover app at the BTRC office on November 9. However, this service is currently only for Grameenphone customers. Mobile phone operators Robi and Banglalink have also started preparatory work to launch this service.

At this time BTRC chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said, 'The government is emphasizing on bringing maximum number of people under the ambit of digital connectivity. But to make it a reality, the private sector, especially the MNOs, have to come forward from themselves.'
