The Dhaka Times Desk 2 people infected with Omicron, a new variant of the corona virus, have been identified in Australia. Yesterday (November 28) this information was reported in a Reuters report.
Health officials in New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, said two passengers who arrived in Sydney from South Africa on Saturday evening tested positive for Omicron. Both of them had no symptoms. They have been fully vaccinated and are currently in quarantine.
At least 12 other passengers returning from South Africa have been placed under 14-day hotel quarantine in the country. Besides, about 260 passengers and crew were ordered to quarantine.
Presumably, this variant may be more difficult with individuals identified in Australia.
Note that the variant first discovered in South Africa has so far been identified in the UK, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Botswana, Israel and Hong Kong.
