The name of the district most associated with the history of Bangladesh's independence war is Meherpur. Many people visit here to know the history of the country.

Mujibnagar is a place of great historical importance as the place where the first caretaker government of Bangladesh was sworn in. A memorial is erected at the place of swearing-in to preserve the memory of the swearing-in. The complex displays various sectors of the Liberation War through a map to make this historically important place more meaningful. A memorial mural of the events of the Liberation War has been installed in this complex.
