Even among bookbinders, leather bookbinding is considered a fine craft. Various animal skins are used in the book binding industry. But the book bound in human skin! As soon as the word K is uttered, anyone is bound to stand up in awe.
Looking back at the history of book binding, it can be seen that several books were bound at one time using human skin. This work also has a cheeky name – 'Anthropodermic Bibliography'.
According to an estimate of 2019, it can be seen that there are innumerable books spread in different libraries of the world. The study, called the 'Anthropodermic Book Project', reported that 50 books from various libraries were suspected to be bound in human skin. Of which 31 are more suspicious. After various tests, 18 of them were definitely identified by experts as binding to human skin!

The English book expert Edward Brooke-Hitching in his book 'The Madman's Library' raised the first question when he opened his mouth about it, why did the binding of these books require human skin if there were so many skins? More surprisingly, these bindings took place in 18th and 19th century Europe. In other words, when the flood of rationalism has swept away all the superstitions and strange customs, these books were bound with human skin!
According to Brooke-Hitching, there were two main types of books bound with human skin in Europe and America at that time. Firstly, 'case studies' of various crimes and secondly, medical literature.
