The Dhaka Times Desk After a bloody war, the glorious freedom was achieved on December 16, 1971, but it was fulfilled essentially on this day, when the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was freed from a Pakistani prison and returned to his beloved homeland.

Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stepped into the independent country on January 10, 1972, 24 days after the victory in the war. The day is being celebrated as Bangabandhu's homecoming day.

From the morning of March 25, 1971, the atmosphere in Dhaka was at a standstill. When the news of Sheikh Mujib-Yahia talks was over, thousands of people took a position in front of Bangabandhu's residence at 32 Dhanmondi; Just waiting for instructions.. instructions to start the war.

Bangabandhu came out of the house several times to address the crowd, but the Father of the Nation considered that the time had not yet come to issue the final instructions. On that day, Awami League was supposed to set the time for approval of the final report of the draft constitution given to the president. That's why the call was supposed to come from Yahya; But that phone did not come.

General Yahya Khan had secretly left for West Pakistan that evening, his forces were then deployed in East Pakistan as per his instructions. Awami League leaders and activists sat in a meeting at number 32 after getting the news of Yahya's departure from Dhaka.

During the night, a part of the Pakistani army launched an attack on Dhaka Rajarbagh Police Lines. Pakistani Army took over Dhaka Radio, but Bangabandhu had prepared 3 secret transmitters in advance. In them, he recorded his announcement on the telephone. He also arranges to broadcast different messages at different times. Through which the nation gets its guidance that night.

Bangabandhu's declaration of independence was just like this - 'This may be my last message, Bangladesh is independent from today. People of Bangladesh, wherever you are and whatever you have, I call upon you to resist the occupying forces to the end. You have to continue fighting until the final victory is achieved by driving the last soldier of the Pakistani occupation forces from the soil of Bangladesh.'

Amidst the violence of the Pakistani forces, around 1 am, the Pakistani soldiers arrested Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his house in Dhanmondi with tanks and armored vehicles. On April 1, he was flown to Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Then taken to Mianwali jail. Allowed to stay in a cell reserved for death row convicts. Bangabandhu had to spend time there and in two prisons in northern Punjab, Lyallpur and Shahiwal, until his release.

Finally, after the independence of the country, the government of Pakistan was forced to release Bangabandhu in the early morning of January 8, 1972 due to the pressure of world opinion. After his release he first went to London. From there he reached Delhi on January 10 in a British Air Force plane. Then today 10th of January reached Dhaka.
