Dhanbari Nawab Shahi Jame Masjid of Tangail, the holder and bearer of ancient architecture, stands in its glory as a witness of Islamic tradition and time. It is located in Prankendra Municipality of Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail.

It is known that the first part of this mosque was built by two brothers of Turkish origin named Ispinzer Khan and Manowar Khan. The mosque was later expanded by Nawab Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury, the first proponent of Bengali language, one of the founding members of Dhaka University, the first Chief Minister of United Bengal, the famous personality of Dhanbari. 115 years ago the mosque was modernized through expansion.

It is known that this mosque built on about 10 khata land was rectangular before the renovation. It was then 13.72 meters (45 ft) long and 4.57 meters (15 ft) wide.

Today it is a square mosque in contrast to the typical 3-domed rectangular Mughal mosque. After the renovation, the mosque lost some of its antiquity, but its luster and beauty increased a lot.

The interior walls of this magnificent mosque use numerous colorful designs of limestone vines and mosaics of limestone, which bear traces of ancient architecture. Terracotta designs of cement and pebbles have been used on the outer walls.

5 entrances are made to enter the mosque. 3 with multi-grooved arches on the east side and two more each on the north and south – 5 in all.

34 small and big domes make the mosque more beautiful. It also has 10 big minarets. The height of each will be about 30 feet from the roof. The two-storey minaret of the mosque is about 15 feet high. The copper moons on the minarets add to the beauty of the mosque.

Adjacent to the mosque is the Shan-Bandhano Ghat and the graveyard. Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury is lying in eternal sleep here. He died on 17 April 1929. Two years before his death, he introduced the system of 24-hour recitation of the Qur'an (except during prayer) in this mosque, which has not stopped for a single day in nearly a hundred years. 5 Hafeez are engaged to keep the uninterrupted recitation going, which amazes the worshipers and visitors who come to the mosque every day.
