The Dhaka Times Desk After much drama, newly elected President Elias Kanchan sat in the chair of Bangladesh Film Artists Association and General Secretary Nipun Akhtar was elected unopposed by the appeal board.
After the swearing-in ceremony yesterday (Sunday) evening, former president Misha Saudagar welcomed Kanchan-Nipun with flower garlands at the association's office. Then they took their assigned seats and were photographed by reporters with smiling faces.
Former president Misha Saudagar read the oath to Elias Kanchan first. Then the new president Kanchan administered the oath to the winners of other positions.
However, outgoing general secretary Zayed Khan did not come to this event. Basically the post is finalized through the Appellate Division and Ministry of Social Welfare. Zaid's candidature was canceled there. And Nipun won. Therefore, the presence of the former president of the previous panel, Misha Saudagar, was an added attraction in the swearing-in ceremony.
But Zayed Khan is still unwilling to accept this masterful victory. He contended on the contrary that this Appellate Board itself is invalid. So he will take legal action. Even the general secretary of the last two terms, Zayed Khan, did not come to the swearing-in ceremony.
It should be noted that on January 28, the election of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the term 2022-24 was held. In its preliminary results, Ilyas Kanchan won the post of president and Zayed Khan was elected as general secretary. However, later there were allegations of widespread irregularities against Zayed Khan. The complaint was raised by his rival candidate Naika Nipun. That is why when the Ministry of Social Welfare Appellate Board decided to resolve the matter, the Appellate Board canceled Zaid's candidature and declared Nipun as the General Secretary.
