The two young women said that many girls from Jharkhand were trafficked to Delhi in the name of work and forced to use them as surrogates.
They claimed that a placement agency in Delhi was working as a trafficker of girls. Behind the scenes, they are running the business of forced pregnancy. Recently, Pannalal, a trafficker from Jharkhand, admitted under interrogation that he had trafficked more than 5,000 girls from the state in the last 15 years. He has made billions of rupees by doing this smuggling.
State Child Welfare Officer Baidyanath Kumar blames placement agencies in Delhi for the incident. The Jharkhand government is already discussing this incident with the Delhi government and has also demanded that the placement agencies be shut down.
Basanti Munda, a former member of the Shishu Kalyan Committee of Jharkhand's Khoti district, said that placement agencies target tribal-affected districts in the state. Children under 18 years of age are trafficked as maids. His claim is that the agencies can easily trap girls of this age as they have not matured. Those girls were taken to the city and sold with the lure of a prosperous life.
