The Dhaka Times Desk Archaeologists have discovered mummies dating back to about 800 to 1,200 years ago in Peru. Among them are 8 children and 12 adults.
The mummies were recovered from Cajamarquilla, an area east of the country's capital, Lima. The mummies were outside an underground tomb. Where a team from Peru's San Marcos University found an ancient mummy in November last year.
Archaeologist Peter van Dalen said some of the bodies were found mummified and others were skeletal, wrapped in layers of cloth as part of an ancient pre-Hispanic ritual.
Van Dalen also says that the burial style of these bodies is well known. Along with children and the elderly, the body of the ruler of Sipan 1700 years ago was also found, he said.
Yomira Huaman, another member of the archaeological team, said that along with the funeral equipment, an Andean musical instrument with several wooden tubes in the shape of a flute was also found there.
He also said, "Our research has revealed that the mummy of Cajamarquilla belongs to a man about 35 years old." No decaying organs were found inside their bodies. That means they were removed after death.
It should be noted that Peru is a center of hundreds of archeological monuments of the culture developed before and after the Inca Empire. This empire dominated from southern Ecuador and Colombia to central Chile 500 years ago.
