The Dhaka Times Desk International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva has expressed concern over the escalation of conflict in Ukraine.

Which is increasing the anxiety and suffering of common people. The conflict also has serious economic implications that may worsen in the long run. The conflict comes at a critical time when the world is beginning to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. He also fears that many of the achievements of that recovery process will now be threatened.
Referring to the current situation discussed in the board meeting of the IMF, he further said, in the board meeting held on Friday, I assured the members that we will work to help Ukraine as far as possible. We will also work hand-in-hand with the World Bank Group and other development partners to support Ukraine - to ensure maximum benefit to the country.
Referring to the discussions with the Ukrainian authorities on how to help in the current situation, he added that the Ukrainian authorities have already asked for assistance. In addition to the policy assistance, an immediate assistance fund of $2.2 billion is ready. In addition to Ukraine, the conflict could pose significant economic risks to the region and other parts of the world. We are evaluating all possible impacts. He also mentioned that we are ready to provide necessary support to the members through close coordination with our international partners.
