This torture is a bloodless torture. Not only that, there are no marks of torture on the body. Outside the world of Sukumar Ray, Chinese punishments have been indiscriminately used to torture prisoners for centuries in many countries. During the interrogation, the prisoners were tied hands and feet and subjected to brutal torture. Prisoners also died because of it.
Once upon a time nobles claimed katukutu among their subjects for physical harassment or humiliation or suppression. Although this approach was taken during the reign of the Han dynasty in China, it has spread over time to many countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, and Germany.
American author Caroline Husk wrote that Katukutu is no laughing matter. Caroline is right. When the level of torture is reached, Katukutu is not limited to laughter at all. Many people may vomit or become unconscious if they are forcefully injected. Katukutu is also reported to have been tortured to death in concentration camps in Nazi Germany.
In the Han Empire of China in 206 BC, the nobles used the katukutu as a tool to oppress the subjects. The reason is that the marks of this torture are not found in the bodies of the subjects. On the other hand, the prisoners could easily be freed from its influence after torture.
It is not clear how this claim crossed the border of China and reached other countries. However, the Nazis took advantage of it during the Second World War. They imprisoned an Austrian named Joseph Kohwat in a concentration camp for the 'crime' of being homosexual.
Joseph claims that while he was in the Flossenberg camp, he saw how prisoners were brutally tortured by the guards. In the book 'The Men with the Pink Triangle' published in 1972, Hans Neumann presented the story of Joseph. The book, written under the pseudonym Heinz Hager, also describes the torture of Joseph.
Many European countries have also used this Chinese claim. Its details are also available in the British Medical Journal. In Italy, prison officials used to tie the hands and feet of prisoners and put salt and water on their feet. Then the prisoners were made to lie on their backs and a goat was released in front of them.
When the goat started to lick the salt-water smeared on the feet of the prisoners, it first felt stinging. But due to constant licking of the feet, at one time the feet would become dry. After that, a width of salt-water was applied to the feet of the prisoners. And then the prisoners were uncomfortable. Prisoners were repeatedly tortured in this manner.
China's claim also reached ancient Japan. Criminals were mercilessly flogged as part of the dawai called 'shikei'.
Whether this claim was used as part of state terrorism or not, however, there was no evidence. However, there are a few known cases of cat torture in ancient England and the United States in the 20th century.
