Arrest warrant issued against Aziz Mohammad Bhai in actor Sohail murder case

The Dhaka Times Desk The speedy trial tribunal has issued arrest warrants against businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai and 3 others in the case of actor Sohel Chowdhury's murder.

Apart from Aziz Mohammad Bhai, the other accused who have received warrants are Trumps Club owner Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam and Salim Khan. Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 judge Zakir Hossain issued this arrest warrant on Sunday.

The accused were scheduled to appear in court on Sunday. The warrant was issued against the accused as they did not appear in court. Also, since the accused in this case, top terrorist Sanjidul Islam Imon and Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury are absconding from the beginning, arrest warrants are also issued against them.

On December 18, 1998, actor Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead by terrorists. The brother of the victim Touhidul Islam Chowdhury filed a murder case in Gulshan police station. After investigating the case, on July 30, 1999, Assistant Police Commissioner Abul Kashem Bepari filed a charge sheet accusing 9 people. On October 30, 2001, the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka framed charges against the defendants. Two years later, the case was sent to Dhaka-2 Speedy Trial Tribunal for speedy disposal.

That same year one of the defendants applied to the High Court Division. In view of that application, the case was adjourned for 19 years from 2003 by order of the High Court. Finally, on February 27, when the suspension order was withdrawn, the testimony of the case started again.

The chargesheeted accused in this case are Adnan Siddiqui, Trumps Club owner Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai alias Abdul Aziz, Tarek Saeed Mamun, Salim Khan, Haroon Or Rashid alias Leather Litton alias Boss Litton, Farooq Abbasi, Sanjidul Islam Imon. and Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury. Among them, 2 Sanjidul Islam Imon and Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury are absconding.
