March 25, 1971 was a terrible and terrible night in the life of the Bengali nation. On the night of March 25, the Pakistani army carried out a massacre called 'Operation Searchlight' to bind the people of this country in the chains of subjugation. At midnight, Dhaka turned into a city of corpses.

That night, the Pakistani forces started indiscriminately killing Bengalis at Rajarbag police line, Pilkhana EPR headquarters, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in various places. In different parts of the country including Dhaka, the invaders brutally killed at least half a million Bengalis in just one night.

It was not only a brutal and gruesome murder, but also a shameful chapter in history. Media in favor of independence of Bangladesh was also not spared from executioner Yahya's cunning plan that day. Today is that night. A shameful chapter in the history of the Bengali nation was done by Pakistani forces. The words of Kalratri have not yet been erased from the hearts of Bengalis.

On March 25, 1971, at 11 pm, Pakistani soldiers suddenly attacked the Bengali soldiers in the cantonment. They carried out armed attacks on East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) headquarters in Pilkhana, Rajarbagh police barracks, Ansar headquarters in Khilgaon. 800 EPR officers and jawans were captured by them. Many of them were brutally killed that night. A small number of EPR members escaped in the dark of night and later took part in the Liberation War. Then the liberation war started with the declaration of independence on March 26. Which culminated in victory on 16th December 1971. We achieve an independent state and a flag. Which is our pride. Today, we remember those whose sacrifices we have got an independent state.
