After the withdrawal of Russian troops from the towns and villages around Kiev, including Bucha, since Saturday, the photos and footage of the corpses of civilians and mass graves, which have been released by Ukraine, have caused widespread anger in Western countries. Discussions have also begun in the Western world that Russian forces may be prosecuted for war crimes similar to the Nuremberg trials. Western leaders are also calling for tougher sanctions on Russia and more military aid to Ukraine. Some EU countries have already expelled 73 Russian diplomats.

The fear of this killing has scared people so much that a mother has written the name and address of her 2 or 3 year old child on the back of her child so that they can at least be identified if they or the child dies. That picture went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the Western world, including the United States, is in a tough position. US President Biden told reporters on Monday that President Putin needs to be tried for war crimes. He said that I came under criticism after calling Putin a war criminal. But the world has seen what Putin has done in Bucha. US Secretary of State Blinken has said that the US will conduct a comprehensive investigation to document Russian war crimes in Ukraine. Ukraine, however, claims it has already regained control of the north-central region around the capital.
President Zelensky said of the bodies found on the streets that it was indeed a genocide. He said, Russian forces are destroying and wiping out Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that "we have not seen such atrocities against civilians in Europe in decades." Ending the war is currently the responsibility of Russian President Putin. UN Secretary General Guterres said, "I am deeply saddened by the pictures of the civilians killed in the massacre in Ukraine." It is now imperative to ensure effective accountability through independent investigations. French President Emmanuel Macron said the European Union should be prepared to impose more sanctions on Russia in response to allegations of civilian killings. Liz Throssell, a spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Commission, said that video footage and photographs obtained clearly show that Russia has targeted civilians in the town of Bucha. He said that the United Nations is investigating whether war crimes have been committed there.
