The Dhaka Times Desk Today is May 1st - Great May Day. A glorious day with bloody memories of workers' struggle and rights against deprivation, torture and discrimination.
On this day in 1886, i.e. May 1st, the workers started a continuous movement in the 'Hay Market' square of the city of Chicago, USA, demanding an 8-hour working day. Many workers were injured that day due to indiscriminate firing by the police on the protesting workers. Protests spread across the world. Then a unity of working people was formed all over the world. In the end, the United States government was forced to accept the demands of the workers.
At the Second International Labor Conference held in Paris on July 14, 1889, a decision was taken to recognize the bloody day of Chicago and observe it as 'May Day'. Since 1890, May Day has been celebrated every year on May 1. Like different countries of the world, in Bangladesh today, public and private organizations are celebrating the day through various programs. May Day is being celebrated a bit dimly due to the 9 days long holiday due to Eid. However, May Day is being celebrated through several government and private programs.
Things to do to prevent Corona virus
# try to stay at home all the time.
# Follow the rules and use mask when going out for emergency.
# three-layer cloth mask can be washed if desired.
# wash clothes after coming home from outside. Or hang it without shaking for at least four hours.
# Wash hands thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds) with soap or liquid before coming outside.
# plastic PPE or eyes, face, head must be washed thoroughly with detergent and dried after one use.
# Wear PPE made of cloth or clean as described.
# Use a head cap that completely covers the hair.
# Those who have sneeze cough should follow all the rules promulgated by the government. Also, wash hands as directed before and after handling food items, keys, switches, mice, remote controls, mobiles, watches, computer desks, TVs, etc. and after using the bathroom. Those who have dry hands use Moisture after washing their hands. Soap or hand liquid can be used. Why can this virus remain in the crackle (cracked part) of dry hands? Avoid using highly alkaline soaps or detergents.
