The Dhaka Times Desk Dementia is the scientific term for problems like loss of memory. An increased risk of heart disease may increase the risk of dementia.
Dementia is a problem that most people neglect in its early stages. Scientists fear that in 2019, the number of people affected by this disease in the world was about 5.7 million, in 2050, this number may increase to 15 million. Heart disease is the most common cause of death in the world every year. Scientists have found a link between these two diseases.
A research paper published in a recent issue of the American Academy of Neurology says that heart disease risk factors can increase the risk of dementia. Factors that increase the risk of a particular disease are called risk factors in scientific language. Factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and smoking are also recognized as major risk factors for heart disease. Scientists claim that these factors can greatly increase the risk of dementia. In particular, the risk of developing the most incurable dementia or Alzheimer's also increases a lot.
A total of 1244 individuals participated in this study. The average age of the participants was 55. Scientists monitored the participants' age, sex, BMI, blood pressure, smoking habits and diabetes over a 10-year period. It was found that 22 percent of the people did not have any kind of problem during this time. In 60 percent of study participants, cardiovascular problems developed slowly. 18 percent of people get sick very quickly. The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is also about 3 to 6 percent higher in those who have been diagnosed with rapid heart disease, the study found. Also, the risk of general dementia of these people is 3 to 4 percent higher, the researchers said. Source: Anandabazar Patrika.
