The Dhaka Times Desk National Film Award winning actress Vidya Sinha Saha Mim has been appointed as UNICEF's new National Goodwill Ambassador in Bangladesh.
This announcement was made yesterday (May 19) at a function at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
As a national goodwill ambassador, Mim has joined the ranks of prominent figures around the world who use their popularity and strong voice to advocate for children's rights, UNICEF said.
At the signing ceremony, Mim said, "UNICEF is with us to ensure education, good health and a bright future for children across the country." I have long been fascinated by UNICEF's work for children. I am truly grateful to be a part of that work in establishing the rights of every child.
Mim also said that speaking up for the rights of children and women is an important responsibility of all of us. I look forward to fulfilling that responsibility together with UNICEF.
Prior to being appointed Goodwill Ambassador, Mim worked with UNICEF to raise awareness about the prevention of Covid-19. Since the start of the pandemic, he has been vocal in the global call to highlight the vital contribution of vaccines in saving lives and the need for more investment in immunization services.
