The Dhaka Times Desk Bashundhara Media Award 2021 was presented in a grand ceremony. 11 investigative journalists of the country received this Bashundhara Media Award.
11 journalists received this Bashundhara Media Award 2021 in 5 categories. Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest and presented the prizes to the winners at a function organized at Bashundhara Convention Center in the capital on Monday (May 30) night.
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Bashundhara Media Award 2021 Organizing Committee Convenor Sayem Sobhan Anveer, Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim and Award Jury Board Chief Professor Golam Rahman were also present in this event.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the speech of the chief guest. Hasan Mahmud said, the role that journalists can play in making the society flow properly cannot be played by any other profession. The government has taken various steps for the development of media.
Highlighting a statistic, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting said, currently the number of daily newspapers is around 1250, there are 38 television broadcasts. A few more are waiting to come. The extent to which online media exists is subject to experimentation. When the call for applications was made, 5,000 applications were submitted.
Answering a journalist's question about media law. Hasan Mahmud said that the media law was made to guarantee the jobs of journalists. There are some flaws in that law. When it is amended and passed, there will be a provision of job security for journalists in all cases.
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said in his speech that there has been a lot of improvement in the quality of journalism in the country. We want more. He urged to write a little about a businessman before writing about him. He announced to give this award to 25 journalists in the future.
