The Dhaka Times Desk Two Russian lawmakers have been expelled from the Communist Party for calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine.
This information was given in a report of Newsweek. Leonid Vasyukevich and Gennady Shulgal were branded traitors after their comments at a meeting of the legislature in eastern Russia's Primorsky region last Friday.
Vasyukevich appealed to Putin to end the war in Ukraine and withdraw troops from the country. Vasiukevich also said that he also spoke on behalf of three colleagues from the Communist Party. They are Shulga, Natalia Kochugova and Aleksandra Sustov.
Vasiukevich also said in the meeting, "We understand that if our country does not stop military operations, there will be many orphans in our country as well."
He also said, 'During military operations, young people who can do a lot of good for our country are killed and maimed. We demand the immediate withdrawal of the troops of the Russian Federation.'
Vasyukevich's comments caused a stir with the region's governor, Oleg Kozemiako. And so he called Vasukevich a traitor.
Vasiukevich and Shulga were removed from the meeting, Russian-language media outlet Mediazona said. He was also denied the right to vote in the session.
Anatoly Dolgachev, head of the Communist Party faction in the country's Primorsky Assembly, told state newspaper Kommersant that Vasyukevich and Shulga were expelled for bringing the party into disrepute.
