The Dhaka Times Desk Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (BTRC) has banned the sale of SIM cards of mobile phone operator Grameenphone for failing to provide quality services. This company will not be able to sell the SIM until further instructions.
BTRC vice chairman Subrata Roy confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday (June 29) night and said that Grameen Phone is not able to provide quality services (voice calls and internet). That is why the operator (Grameenphone) cannot sell any SIM until further instructions.
After approving the matter in the afternoon, BTRC sent it in the form of instructions to Grameenphone. Only the operator can sell SIMs if they can ensure quality service to customers.
Meanwhile, Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar told the media about the ban on the sale of SIM cards by Grameenphone. They will increase the number of customers but not the quality of service - this cannot be allowed. Until they improve the quality of service and raise it to a satisfactory level, they will be banned from selling SIMs.
According to a report published by BTRC, the number of subscribers of Grameenphone was 8 crore 49 lakh 50 thousand till last month i.e. May.
Grameenphone participated in the 5G wave auction organized by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) last March 31. In the auction, the company bought the maximum allotted 60 MHz wave in the 2.6 GHz band. However, like other operators, Grameenphone is not able to use the newly allocated waves. It is known that the operators will be able to use the wave from next December.
