The Dhaka Times Desk Today is July 1, 2016. The worst terrorist attack in the history of Bangladesh happened on this day.
Five young militants stormed the restaurant at Holy Artisan Bakery in Gulshan a week before Eid, armed with pistols, sub-machine guns and sharp weapons. They killed 20 people including 17 foreigners by slaughtering and shooting. Two police officers were killed trying to stop the attack. Later, the militants were killed in a commando operation.
Today is the sixth anniversary of this unprecedented attack. Two-and-a-half years after the verdict in the judicial court, the hearing of the death reference in the Gulshan Holy Artisan Bakery attack case has not started yet.
On November 27, 2019, the court sentenced 7 militants to death in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with that attack. However, one was acquitted in the verdict.
Judge Mojibur Rahman of Dhaka Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal found 7 members of Naya JMB guilty under Section 6(2)(b) of Anti-Terrorism Act and sentenced them to death and fined 50,000 taka. Some of them were sentenced to imprisonment for different terms under two other sections.
Those sentenced to death are Jahangir Hossain alias Rajiv Gandhi, Aslam Hossain alias Rash, Hadisur Rahman, Abdus Sabur Khan, Rakibul Hasan Reagan, Shariful Islam alias Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon.
Ordering them to be hanged until death is confirmed, the judge said in his judgement, the accused had committed a "heinous manifestation of the frenzy, cruelty and brutality of militancy" in the attack on the Holy Artisan Bakery. They cannot get any mercy or sympathy in sentencing.'
The accused Mizanur Rahman, who faced trial in this case, was acquitted in the judgment as his involvement in the crime was not proved.
Meanwhile, the Japanese and Indian embassies along with the relatives of the victims commemorated the day and paid tribute to Holi Artisan.

Those who have dry hands use Moisture after washing their hands. Soap or hand liquid can be used. Why can this virus remain in the crackle (cracked part) of dry hands? Avoid using highly alkaline soaps or detergents.
