Now a new feature is coming to Instagram. Through which the age of users will be verified. They have recently started experimenting with such a new feature. The feature is currently being tested on US citizens.
Meta-owned Instagram is currently researching two new ways to verify a person's age. This feature is being introduced to provide a new experience on social media to minors, i.e. those aged 13-17 years. Preventing minors from unknown contacts, defaulting to private accounts, restricting the use of advertisements etc.
Instagram tied up with a technology company called Yoti to bring this new age verification feature. In this case users can also upload a video selfie to verify their age. Then Yoti will technically estimate the user's age based on facial features.
Once the age is verified, both Meta and Yoti will delete the photo. Another option is that the user also has to select 3 mutual followers, who will help him determine his age, stating that he is at least 18 years old or above.
Last year, Instagram launched a platform for children called Instagram for Kids. At that time, there was a storm of criticism and condemnation about this project from various quarters, including netizens. Finally, under pressure, Instagram shut down the platform. Only then is thought of bringing this new feature to the market.
