This silo construction project is being implemented by Bangladesh's Confidence Infrastructure Limited and USA's GSI Group LLC. Construction of modern silos or warehouses is an effective step for proper storage of food grains for long term to deal with natural calamities and food crisis. And for this purpose, wheat silos made of steel are being constructed at the concrete wheat silo campus located on the banks of Karnaphuli river in Chittagong. In a ceremony organized today, the foundation stone of the steel silo construction was laid. Minister of Food Sadhan Chandra Mazumder, MP was present as the chief guest in the event and Secretary of the Ministry of Food Md. was present as a special guest. Ismail Hossain.
The silo construction project will be jointly implemented by Bangladesh's Confidence Infrastructure Limited and UK's GSI Group LLC. The Food Directorate will be in overall supervision of the construction work of this silo to be built as a part of the 'Modern Food Storage' project with the financial support of the Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank.
The silo can store wheat for two to three years with automatic humidity and temperature control. Ensuring the quality of stored wheat will not require the use of chemicals and pesticides, which is not possible in conventional food warehouses or silos. It is not possible to store grain in warehouses for all seasons and for a long period of time due to the lack of opportunity to control the humidity and temperature of the grain in the local supply centers of the country. In such a situation, this silo will play an effective role in storing wheat for a long time.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, MP said, “It is not possible to ensure the development of the country without ensuring food security – therefore, our government is considering the matter very seriously. Under the direction of the honorable Prime Minister, we are working on the modernization of our agricultural system. As a part of this program, a decision has been taken to build a modern food grain warehouse across the country; So that there is sufficient stock of food for the people of our country at any time and in any condition. In the coming days, we will take more steps to ensure the safety of our food."
The special guest is the Secretary of the Ministry of Food. Ismail Hossain praised this timely step and as a result of all such initiatives in Bangladesh in the near future; In particular, it will be possible to strengthen food security in times of disaster, he expressed strong hope. Besides, he urged everyone including the Ministry of Food to work together to ensure the food security of the country.

Including this silo in Chittagong, a total of eight state-of-the-art silos will be constructed at eight geographically important locations in the country under the 'Modern Food Storage' project, of which two will store wheat and six will store rice. Out of the total 8 locations, Confidence Infrastructure Limited (Bangladesh) and GSI Group LLC (USA) jointly own 3 locations namely 48000 metric ton rice silo at Barisal, 48000 metric ton rice silo at Narayanganj and 114,300 metric ton wheat silo at Chittagong. Building silos. The main objective of the project is to develop an effective food storage system at government and household level for post-disaster emergencies.
It should be noted that 5 acres of unused low land has been developed and made suitable for silo construction in the Silo Campus of Chittagong. Boundary walls and a three-storey silo site office building have been constructed in the entire silo construction area. At present, the construction of wheat steel silos with a capacity of 1,14,300 metric tons under package W-24 is starting. For the purpose of construction of this wheat storage silo to be built in Chittagong, the agreement of the Department of Food was signed with Confidence Infrastructure Limited and GSI Group LLC in April this year.
