The Dhaka Times Desk Is Pakistan going the way of Sri Lanka? Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has claimed that. Islamabad has been facing severe energy crisis for the past few weeks.
Imran Khan fears in this situation, it is not too late. This time, like in Sri Lanka, the streets of Pakistan may also be flooded with protestors. Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan wants to take steps to sell the country's property to deal with the situation. A new ordinance in this regard was also passed on July 23.
Due to this new ordinance, the courts will not entertain any petition against the sale of the country's property abroad in emergency situations. Pakistan is desperate to raise foreign exchange by selling shares in the country's oil and gas companies and state-owned power plants to the United Arab Emirates for $2.5 billion, up from $2.5 billion at the moment. This change was brought earlier.
Last May, Saudi Arabia announced that it would not provide any further financial assistance to Pakistan, which is unable to repay old debts. In this situation, Pakistan has virtually no option but to sell its domestic assets to repay the debt.
In this situation, Imran Khan feels that Asif Zardari and the 'mafia' of the Sharif family have pushed Pakistan to political and economic bankruptcy within three months to save their ill-gotten wealth.
Imran Khan also said, "I can say this with certainty, the common people of Pakistan will respond to my call of 'Hakiki Azadi'." They will not allow these mafias to continue looting like this."
After the corona epidemic, Pakistan's economy has basically turned upside down. Trade Deficit' i.e. the expenditure of foreign exchange is higher than the income due to the huge increase in imports compared to exports. On top of that political damadole trade and investment have also broken down. All in all, Pakistan is virtually bankrupt.
